How to get a free thermal printer from UPS, FedEx, or USPS?

Thermal printers can be a high expense for small businesses but also a huge necessity at the same time. For those who cannot afford to get one on their own, there are ways to get the benefits of a thermal printer at little or no cost. Here are some ways to get yourself a free thermal printer.

UPS offers a free Zebra LP 2844 printer either free of charge or for the nominal amount of $2 per month. On top of that you also get free printing supplies which will save even more money. The Zebra LP 2844 is a great thermal printer that will serve its purpose especially since it is free. It does not have any special features like the FreeX WiFi SuperRoll Thermal Printer like being wireless, but it does the job.

How to get the Zebra LP 2844 for free?

Step #1: Set up on online account with UPS called " ID"

Step #2: Head over to and enter the required information to create that account

Step #3: Once you have the account, you will need to call UPS customer service center on 1-800-742-5877, they are available Monday-Friday 7am to 9pm EST

Step #4: The automated response will ask if you with for "Shipping Information" or to "Track a Package"

Step #5: Press 0 on your keypad to speak to a customer service representative

Step #6: Ask to speak to an account manager in order to set up an account

Step #7: The account manager will walk you through the steps of opening your account

Step #8: Once your account is open, speak to your account manager about renting a printer from UPS

Step #9: The standard rental amount for a UPS thermal printer is $2 per week, but the account manager has the ability to waive the fee entirely for customers who ship in high volume

What if the printer breaks?

Thermal printers do not breakdown often but it that happens to you, UPS will replace the printer free of charge. You just need to speak the the account manager about it.

What other supplies are provided for free?

UPS will supply branded boxes, shipping tags, customs forms, label pouches, and blank thermal printing labels free of charge.

Here is how to get them:

  1. Log in into your account and click Order Supplies in the menu on the left-hand side

  2. You will see options for order forms, tags, boxes, envelopes, pouches, and blank thermal labels

  3. Order whatever you need and you will notice the items are marked as "Cost Free" so you will not be charged for anything

Now you have a free printer and free printing supplies. Like mentioned this is not the highest level of thermal printing but it will do the job really well considering it is completely free. You can also get the same printer from FedEx by following similar steps, like reaching out to the account manager but USPS does not provide this service.
