What are the best wireless thermal printers for shipping labels?

The technology of wireless printing makes your life easier and more convenient. You no longer have to print tied to your computer. You can do it from anywhere you want as long as you are connected through WiFi or Bluetooth.

There are not many wireless thermal printers on the market since this technology is quite new for thermal printing, but these are the top ones we've found and tested: FreeX Wireless SuperRoll Thermal Printer, Brother QL-1110NWB, BeePrt BY426BT Thermal Printer, and Zebra ZD420.

Important Factors

We think the most important factors when purchasing a wireless thermal printer are the connectivity, ease of use and price.

1. Ease of use/Convenience

Having a wireless thermal printer to begin with will make your life so much easier and hassle free, but there are more factors that come into that. You want your wireless printer to be reliable, easy to set up, a great design, and have the help available and provided if ever needed.

BeePrt is not considered very reliable because customers reported issues with the Bluetooth connection in the past.

Brother and Zebra have great extra features like Bluetooth connection and their Apps, but with so many things to set up it can be overwhelming for the user and hard to get started. Another big downfall to mention, is that Brother uses proprietary labels, meaning you have to get specific labels which adds cost and hassle. Having said that, Brother is known to have great customer service that can help with any set up or connectivity issues, however, Zebra's customer service can be a little harder to reach.

When it comes to reliability and ease of use, we think FreeX is the winner here. The set up of wireless printing with FreeX takes less than 3 minutes and there are detailed instructions on their website how to do so. Because there is no Bluetooth, the set up is quicker compared to the other printers.

FreeX also has a SuperRoll Label holder that holds more labels than other printers, which means you do not need to replace your labels as often, saving time and money. On top of that, the FreeX team is located in DT Los Angeles and they have an amazing customer service team that will help if there are any issues.

2. Connectivity

Connectivity is one of the most important factors when it comes to wireless thermal printers. This is how the printer connects to your device and the options it has for wireless printing.

The BeePrt advantages are that it can print wireless through Bluetooth. This is a great feature that allows you to print with no internet connection, but customers have expressed having issues connecting their phones to print with this specific printer. Another big disadvantage of the BeePrt is that is does not print wireless using WiFi.

Zebra's advantage is that it can print wireless through WiFi and Bluetooth. It is great to have those options, however, Zebra is not compatible with iOS or Android when printing wireless through WiFi.

FreeX Wireless Thermal Printer is able to print with an USB cord as well as wireless through WiFi. You connect the printer to your WiFi and to your computer and you are able to print wireless on your computer, phone or tablet. This connectivity is great and super convenient because it allows all your devices to connect and print through WiFi. Only disadvantage is that FreeX does not have wireless Bluetooth connection for when there is no WiFi available.

Lastly, Brother has wireless connectivity through both WiFi and Bluetooth and is compatible with the same systems for both. Having that extra feature allows the user to have even more freedom of use thus beating its competitors.

3. Price

Wireless thermal printers are not the cheapest. You are definitely paying for the feature of being able to freely print without the cable holding you down. It is something worth paying for if you like the convenience. Whether you are looking to splurge or are on a smaller budget, we will provide options in all ranges.

As you can see above, there is something for everyone. The Zebra wireless thermal printer comes with a hefty price tag. It has great features but because it is sold out all the time, it can be expensive. We would not suggest it if you are looking to save costs.

The FreeX Wireless Thermal Printer and the Brother QL-1110NWB are in a similar price range, and are recommended for someone who is willing to spend a little extra to get more features and better quality of the product.

If you are completely on a budget and don't want to spend too much on your wireless thermal printer, we highly recommend the BeePrt thermal printer. This one is wireless through Bluetooth which allows you to print from your phone or tablet which is a great feature for the price. Even though its' performance is not always the best, and it cannot print wireless through WiFi, with that price and the Bluetooth capability, we think it is amazing for someone looking to save and just starting out with wireless thermal printing.

Winner for Cost: BeePrt BY426BT Thermal Printer

Final Thoughts

We think that FreeX and Brother are the top strongest competitors. While Brother might beat FreeX with its connectivity, having the Bluetooth feature, FreeX uses non proprietary labels which we think will save you a lot of money and hassle overtime and FreeX has a better design, holding more labels. Because of this, we think FreeX is the best choice for a wireless thermal printer for shipping labels.
